Milestone 2 Reflection: making flyers

Nic and I have made flyers and we're sending them to Arun to print and laminate them.  He'll then bring them to school where we'll post them in the restrooms.

Milestone 1 reflection: group

I got a group of three together.  My team mates are Arun Somasundaram and Nic Bader.  We met and discussed ideas.  We're going to make flyers, print them, and laminate them and post them in the restrooms.  We met this milestone successfully, but it took a while to do so.  We're still good to go though.

Project Updates

1.  Lead Project
I have talked to 4 people: Arun, Nick, Jared and Francis, about my project, and I now need to meet with them so we can talk about what we'll do.  Getting a group together was my first milestone, so I have nearly met that.  Hopefully our conversation will go smoothly and without too much side-tracking.

2.  Projects I'm Helping With
I am working with Arun, Elizabeth and Jenny on their projects.  So far I have only worked with Arun, picking up garbage in the front courtyard, student parking lot and field.  I chose to do these projects because these people are my friends.  I would help them with any project they were doing.  Although, picking up garbage wasn't much of a learning experience.  It did give me a chance to ask for help on my project though.

Blog Entry #4

1.  My Projects
The project that I have decided to lead so far is working to improve the cleanliness of the men's restrooms.  I have also, hearing that Elizabeth Ong may need help leading her project, am going to volunteer to do help lead her project of organizing a talent show.

2.  Projects that I am Involved In
     Arun Soma's trash pick up
     Elizabeth Ong's talent show
     Jenny Gao's campus clean-up

Force Field Analysis

Driving Forces
Barriers
-other students are probably also bothered by the need for cleanliness in the restrooms and will approve of something being done
-it may make the restrooms cleaner
-it will be difficult to get a group together with the limited time we have and the amount of planning needed to meet
-work for other classes
-for some things we may need permission from the school
-we will need to come up with multiple solutions; posters alone won’t be enough for this project
-alternate ideas such as permanent signs or seat covers may require too many resources
-some people will be busy when we schedule to meet
-not enough people will want/be able to join
-people might still use the restrooms uncleanly despite what we do
-

Work For Other Classes In the Way
The only way to overcome this barrier is to manage my time and make sure I get everything I need to done.  I will prioritize the work I do by due date, and work until it's done.
If I fall behind, I will have to stay up, which will motivate me to manage my time better so I don't have to stay up.  I've been having trouble managing my time as it is, but I'm going to try to use my planner more, which will help.

Flyers Alone Won't Be Enough for the Project
We'll brainstorm and consider other ideas, such as having seat cover dispensers or permanent reminders.  We would have to look into whether those will be allowed or whether we can afford them.

Project Outline

Project Title: Clean Bathrooms

Start on: October 14

Finish by: December

Milestone dates:
October 22: get a group together to brainstorm ideas of how to address the problem
November: create clever flyers/posters to encourage cleanliness in the restrooms

Advisor for project: Ms. Fitzpatrick

Result:
This project's goal is to make restrooms (at least the mens' restrooms) cleaner by encouraging people to clean up after themselves and wash their hands, and have mature behavior in the restrooms.
This involves leadership for my team, and for everyone using the restroom.  My team will be trying to get a whole group of people to follow directions

Obstacles:
Getting a group will be difficult for me.
Coming up with clever flyers that motivate people to be cleaner may be difficult for me, but team members to whom humor comes easily can help.

Milestones:
- Get a group together, probably only guys unless the girls' restroom is a problem too
- Make flyers to put in the stalls and other strategic areas, and make them look professional so people are more likely to respect them
- Come up with more ideas and act upon them

I can find other classmates' blogs to contact them and ask if they want to be part of my project.  If they have time we could meet in person, or discuss ideas through email.

Materials:
From the idea I have so far, the only materials we'll need are computers, paper and tape, but the group will also discuss what to do that is more professional

Members and Roles:
Some people to create posters and some to post them in the restrooms
More roles will become clear when we get more ideas
